Brings Easter Hope, Dignity, and Joy to Elderly People in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – In a touching demonstration of compassion and community solidarity, Return To Africa Foundation (RTA) celebrated Ethiopian Easter with elderly people living in the Kolfe area of Addis Ababa, bringing hope, companionship, and joy to those who often face loneliness and hardship.
The Easter outreach program was organized to support elderly community members who have little or no family support. In keeping with Ethiopia's rich cultural and religious traditions, the Foundation purchased a cow, prepared a special holiday feast, and distributed meat and meals to elderly men and women, ensuring they could celebrate Easter with dignity and happiness.
More than a charitable event, the celebration became a day of love, connection, and shared humanity. Volunteers spent meaningful time with the elderly, listening to their stories, sharing conversations, and reminding them that they are valued members of the community.
The gathering was filled with smiles, laughter, prayers, and heartfelt emotions. Many of the elderly participants expressed their gratitude, saying that the visit made them feel remembered, respected, and loved during one of the most important holidays of the year. For some, it was the first time in many years that they had celebrated Easter surrounded by people who genuinely cared for them.
Mr. Yordanos Tesfaye Tadese, Ethiopia Office Coordinator for Return To Africa Foundation, was actively involved throughout the initiative, from purchasing the cow to distributing the Easter meals and spending time with the elderly community.
Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Yordanos shared:
"What touched me most was seeing the happiness on their faces. Their smiles, blessings, and words of gratitude were truly unforgettable. Many of the elderly were not only thankful for the food but also grateful that someone took the time to sit with them, listen to them, and celebrate Easter together. At that moment, I realized that kindness, respect, and companionship can be just as important as material support. Their joy reminded us why our mission is so important."
The initiative reflects the core values of Return To Africa Foundation's mission—to serve vulnerable communities with compassion, dignity, and respect. The Foundation continues to support women, children, elderly people, and disadvantaged families across Africa through humanitarian assistance, community outreach, and empowerment programs.
As the Easter celebration came to a close, the joy shared among the elderly community served as a powerful reminder that no one should feel forgotten. Through simple acts of kindness and human connection, lives can be transformed, hope can be restored, and communities can be strengthened.
Return To Africa Foundation remains committed to creating a future where every person can live with dignity, safety, and opportunity.
